5 September 念の力 Willpower

We are developing our willpower by practicing aikido.

Whatever you decide is your dream or your goal will come true. The only reason for it not to come true is if you quit, if you stop working toward your goal.

Of course, we sometimes change our goals midway. Maybe as we go along we realize that a different goal suits us better. During the summer vacation I was cleaning out my closets, and I found my kindergarten yearbook. Back then, I wanted to be a firetruck driver! And here I am, an aikido teacher. Well, sometimes you decide to change your goals.

What I am talking about is quitting because you feel like it is too hard. When you are working toward your goal and things get tough for you, don't just throw your hands up in the air and quit because it's no fun when things are difficult. Don't give up.

Whatever your dream, if you keep working toward it, it will come true. You know, that goes for aikido, too. My teacher used to tell me, "keep doing it until you can do it!"
